5 Lesser known text editors.

People use text editors and code editors like notepad, notepad++, sublime text etc. a lot. For different purposes obviously. We hear all the big names: Sublime Text, Notepad++, VSCode, Komodo Edit etc. a lot.

But you might have wondered about the lesser known text editors and code editors that are there but you (probably) haven't heard of.

Thus in this article I will tell you about 5 lesser known and not those famous text editors. Great?

Lite :

This specific one is not that unknown but less than the big ones mentioned before. It is an open-source lightweight text editor written in lua.

It is aimed to be minimalistic and works fast and as intended. Its easy to modify and extend.

Crimson Editor

Crimson Editor is an old one here. Its an open source professional source code editor for Windows. Its latest update was in May 14, 2008 (according to the site).

It can serve as a good replacement for notepad but it also has some powerful features for different programming languages (above 100) such as java, perl, html etc.

It has almost all features a code editor needs nowadays as its basics along with a few others too. Like macro support, ftp etc.

Howl :

Howl is a general purpose editor that aims to be both lightweight and fully customizable. It is built on top of the very fast LuaJIT runtime, and can be extended in either Lua or Moonscript. It has a keyboard-centric UI that's as minimalistic as they can get.

Howl is made mostly for Linux, OpenBSD and other Unix-like or Unix-based Operating systems. It said that its possible to get howl for other OS but I thought not to rather do that. And did I say its open source???

Since we had text editors exclusive to each mainstream OS, now is the time for MacOS.

Arachnophilia :

Arachnophilia is a web page development workshop and general programming tool. Its a free Careware that the hermit programmer, Paul Lutus, has made.

It is written in java so that all other OS can use it. It was originally intended for windows but the dev added a jar file which can run on any os that can have jvm. (You have to have jvm setup and running before running it on other os other than windows because there is an exe for them.)

Arachnophilia gives you full control over your editor in everything as everything is made out of a macro which can be changed and remembered.
